About

Phil Speakman has become widely acknowledged for his intimate hands on knowledge of classic MZ motorcycle restoration, particularly within the mainstream classic motorcycling press. He has regularly entered exhibits for judging in the bi-annual Stafford International Classic Motorcycle Show, the largest show of its kind in Europe. Exhibitors from all over the continent gather there to show their restored vehicles, competing for awards in recognition of their restoration skills. The pinnacle of Phil’s achievements came in 2009 when he was awarded the “Best Continental Motorcycle” prize, for his restored 1951 DKW RT200. Over the years, Phil has also gained many “runners up” and “highly commended awards” for his MZ motorcycle entries.

The knowledge which Phil Speakman has accumulated during more than a decade of MZ motorcycle restoration has equipped him with an intimate knowledge of the MZ range of machines and the engineering problems and solutions often encountered during their restoration. He has accumulated not only a detailed knowledge of the 500+ individual components which once assembled, make up each of the MZ range of machines. He has also collected an extensive reference library of technical documentation from which to refer, in order to make accurate and informed decisions.
